We are pleased to announce that artist, writer and deputy editor of C & América Latina Magazine Will Fredo Furtado will travel to Rio de Janeiro for a residency and critical writing workshop at Instituto Inclusartiz from Aug 24 – Sept 3 2023.
In collaboration with Instituto Inclusartiz, Contemporary And (C&) and Salta art, the 10 day residency will culminate in a 2 day critical writing workshop with the artist and writer from Aug 26 — Aug 27. The residency is supported by Instituto Inclusartiz and Salta art.
Will Fredo Furtado is an afro-indigenous non-binary artist and writer exploring power dynamics, and the intersection of pop culture, decolonial thought, blackness, indigeneity, queerness and technology. Born in Portugal of Guatemalan and Cape Verdean heritage, Will is based in Berlin, Germany. Since 2017 Will forms part of Contemporary And (C&), an art platform for international perspectives, as an editor. In their artistic practice Will works with images, text and body to explore decoloniality and Global South epistemologies.
The Inclusartiz arts residency program aims to build bridges between the activities and practices of their residents and the local arts community, fostering the development of research as well as new partnerships within the country. In collaboration with C& and their C& Critical Writing Workshops, Will’s residency and 2-day workshop will provide a platform for emerging arts writers to discuss arts reporting and critical writing practice, develop tools necessary for writing reviews, commentary and essays, and to explore the challenges young critical writers face today.
Further enriching an exchange between Germany and South America, this newest collaboration focuses on critical arts writing and an exchange of ideas and connections between the global art network of C& and the local critical writing scene of Rio de Janeiro.
