Dr. Monika Bayer-Wermuth travels to São Paulo and Buenos Aires to conduct her curatorial research trip, as part of the Salta art partnership with the Goethe-Institut, Meridiano (within the framework of the NODO Program), and ABACT / Latitude. Bayer-Wermuth is Chief Curator at the Museum Brandhorst in Munich.

As part of the research on site, Salta art organizes and facilitates visits to various archives, institutions, and artists’ studios.

During her week-long trip, Bayer-Wermuth takes part in the full public and professional program of NODO in Buenos Aires, including exhibition openings, gallery visits, collection visits, museum archive visits, and encounters with curators, collectors, and institutional representatives.

In São Paulo, ABACT / Latitude coordinates a professional agenda featuring gallery and studio visits, and encounters with artists and curators across the city, as well as visits to MASP, the Pinacoteca, Museu Afro Brasil, and the Arpa Art Fair.

Dr. Monika Bayer-Wermuth is Senior Curator at Museum Brandhorst in Munich, where she is responsible for the collection as well as international exhibitions and publication projects.

At the core of her curatorial work is an in-depth engagement with artistic production, as well as with the social and political questions of contemporary art, which she seeks to translate into the institutional context in an accessible and critical way.

Her exhibitions include, among others, “Alexandra Bircken. A–Z,” “Nicole Eisenman. What Happened,” and “This Is Me, This Is You. The Eva Felten Photo Collection.” Most recently, she oversaw the major reinstallation of the collection.

Prior to joining Museum Brandhorst, she worked at Tate Modern in London (2016–2019) and at Lenbachhaus in Munich (2014–2016). Her dissertation, “Harun Farocki: Arbeit,” was published in 2017 by Silke Schreiber. She is also a member of the advisory board of Kunstraum München.
