Munich-based artist Eunjin Yoo (Daegu, 1992) was selected by Salta art’s Jury, composed of Amanda Carneiro, Chus Martínez and Anna Schneider as well as Pivô to participate in the Pivô Research Residency in São Paulo from August 5 to November 2, 2025.
Eunjin Yoo’s practice moves across installation, sound, sculpture, video, and performance, exploring how cultural memory and identity are shaped through migration, labor, and shared histories. Her works often emerge through fieldwork and collaboration, weaving together sonic fragments, material traces, and lived experience. She engages deeply with local contexts, crafting multi-layered pieces that reflect on the ways in which tradition is reinterpreted in the present. She studied visual arts in Daegu, Berlin, and Munich, graduating in 2025 under the mentorship of Prof. Alexandra Bircken and Prof. Raphaela Vogel. Her work has been presented in both public and private spaces, including Lovaas Projects (Munich), Kunstarkaden (Munich), AkademieGalerie (Munich), The Pool (Düsseldorf), and Nuovo Gallery (Daegu).
During her residency in São Paulo, Yoo plans to develop a body of work that investigates the sonic connections between Afro-Brazilian percussion traditions and the rhythms of industrial labor rooted in the city’s garment industry. Through collaborations with local artisans and musicians, she aims to experiment with hybrid instruments that combine traditional craftsmanship with mechanical textures. Field recordings, workshops, and improvisational sessions will feed into an evolving installation that reflects on sound as a vessel of memory, resilience, and cultural transformation.

About the Residency
Pivô’s residency program in collaboration with Salta art offers an inspiring environment for research, experimentation, and collaboration. Participants receive accommodation, a studio space, and a monthly stipend to cover material expenses, along with mentoring by experts, studio visits, and a curatorial framework to support their development.
Pivô Research is located in the iconic Copan building, designed by Brazilian modernist architect Oscar Niemeyer. Situated in the heart of São Paulo, the Copan is renowned for its innovative design and diverse mix of residents and activities, embodying the city’s blend of tradition and modernity.
Since 2013, Pivô’s residency program has been a hub for artistic research and experimentation, providing a dynamic space for creativity and exchange.
The program emphasizes artistic freedom, with no pressure to produce work during the residency. Participants are free to use the time and space for creation if they wish, as past residents Diogo da Cruz and Vincent Scheers did by creating films during their time at Pivô. Any work produced can later be showcased at the program’s well-attended yearly Open Studio event.
