Gala Berger (Argentina, 1983) has been chosen by Salta art’s Jury and the City of Munich Department of Arts and Culture representative to participate in the AIR-M Ebenböckhaus Residency, Munich from 7th July – 29th September, 2025.
Gala Berger’s practice explores the power of images to shape collective identities, working across textiles, digital media, and installation. Rooted in Latin America, she actively creates independent spaces for collaboration, and engages in activist projects like Retablos por la memoria, producing street interventions for human rights in Peru. She studied Visual Arts at the Universidad Nacional de las Artes (UNA) in Buenos Aires, has exhibited widely across Latin America, Europe, and beyond, and is co-founder of several independent initiatives, including La Ene Experimental Museum (Buenos Aires) and Casa MA (Central America).
During the AIR-M Ebenböckhaus Residency in Munich from 7th July – 29th September Berger will expand her research on carnivals and popular Creole traditions, using open archives and material storytelling to explore how collective memory shapes public space and social roles. Her large-format textile collages – combining printed fabrics, digital transfers, and reclaimed materials – reflect her interest in the intersections of art, community, and activism.
About the residency
The Ebenböckhaus is part of the Residency program organized by The City of Munich Department of Arts and Culture. The residency is a collaboration between Salta art and the City of Munich Department of Arts and Culture.
Ebenböckhaus is a historic villa and cultural hub in the heart of Munich’s Pasing district. The AIR-M Ebenböckhaus residency provides a spacious apartment with separate living and sleeping rooms (each fitted with locks), a shared kitchen, and a bathroom. The house includes three workrooms (52 m²) for creative practice and public presentations. Residents make use of the foyer and park for events, and at the end of the residency, an open studio event showcases their work to art professionals and the public.
In addition to the Ebenböckhaus facilities, artists access a shared studio space at Empfangshalle, located in Munich’s vibrant Kreativquartier, a creative hotspot in the city. The residency includes a MakerPlus membership from MakerSpace Munich, offering access to cutting-edge tools like 3D printers, electronics, metalworking, and more. Salta art supports the residency with two courses designed to help artists make the most of the MakerSpace resources.
The Salta art team offers continuous support, and artists are encouraged to take part in activities such as workshops, talks, or performances, engaging with the local art scene. This residency is designed to provide a flexible, supportive environment for artists to focus on their practice, explore new directions, and build professional connections.
